Posts may lose value over time, and Slab provides two tools to declutter: archiving and deleting.
Archived posts become hidden or deprioritized in most places but are still accessible and searchable, while deleted posts are permanently removed from Slab.
Archived posts
Archived posts have a gray banner at the top, which provides a warning to the reader.
While archived posts are usually hidden from the UI, it's still possible to discover them.
You can view archived posts on a topic page by using the filter in the top right-hand corner.
Within search, you can use the is:archived search facet to find archived posts.
Archiving and unarchiving a post
Go to the post
Click the … menu in the top right-hand corner of a post page
Click Archive or Unarchive
Archiving and unarchiving a post from the topic page
If your post is in a topic, you can also archive it from the topic page:
Go to the topic page
Hover over the post you want to archive
Click the … menu to the right
Click Archive
To unarchive a post from the topic page:
Go to the topic page
Click the filter in the top right-hand corner
Click Archive in the dropdown menu
Hover over the post you want to unarchive
Click the …menu to the right
Click Unarchive
Mass archiving
You can also mass archive posts using the Content Map:
Go to the Content Map either from the sidebar or a topic page
Click Reorganize on the top right-hand corner
Select the posts you would like to archive
Hover over the selected posts and click the … menu to the right
Click Archive
Deleting posts
🚨 Be careful
Unlike archived posts, deleted posts are permanently removed from your Slab.
To delete a post:
Go to the post
Click the ... menu in the top right-hand corner
Click Delete
A modal will appear. Review the modal before clicking Delete.
If your post is mentioned in other content, such as another post, topic, or group, the modal will display a list of backlinks that refer to your post.
Deleting a post will not automatically remove those mentions, and attempting to access a mention of a deleted post will result in an error. To maintain the accuracy of your content, we recommend either replacing or deleting the mention from the content listed before deleting the post.
Mass Deletion
Using the Content Map, you can delete multiple posts at once:
Go to the Content Map either from the sidebar or a topic page
Click Reorganize on the top right-hand corner
Select the posts you would like to delete
Hover over the selected posts, and click the … menu to the right
Click Delete posts
