Learn about group roles and membership

Updated over a week ago

Users in groups have defined roles. This article will go over group roles and the capabilities of each role, as well as how groups work as topic members.

Group roles

Two roles are assigned to users in a group: owners and members.

The user who creates the group will become the owner. All other teammates added to the group afterward will be members by default.

Group owners

Group owners have top permissions in a group. Group owners have the following abilities that regular members do not have:

  • Editing the group details (name, description, banner image)

  • Adding members

  • Promoting members to owners

  • Demoting owners

  • Removing members from the group

Adding group members

To add a member to a group:

  1. Click Groups in the left sidebar.

  2. Click the relevant group.

  3. Click Add member.

  4. Search and select the user or group you want to add.

✏️ Note: It's possible to add another group as a member. This allows a group hierarchy. Child group members are treated the same as the direct members of the parent group.
