Creating topics

Organize your posts for a better discovery

Topics keep all your content structured and easy to find. They are nestable — a single topic can have subtopics going multiple levels deep. You can also use topics to manage permissions. This article will walk you through the different ways to create a topic.

From the sidebar

You can create a top-level topic from the sidebar. A top-level topic is a topic that has no parent topic.

To create a top-level topic from the sidebar, click the + plus icon next to All Topics.

✏️ Note

Depending on your organization's settings, you may need to be an admin to create a top-level topic, and guests are never allowed to create top-level topics. You can learn more about top-level topic permissions here.

Creating a subtopic

You can also create a subtopic from the sidebar.

  1. Hover over the topic that you'd like to create a subtopic under

  2. Click the … menu

  3. Select Create subtopic

From the content map

The content map is a great way to build out your content's structure for the first time — or to reorganize it later!

To create a top-level topic from the content map:

  1. Click on Content Map in the sidebar

  2. Scroll to the right

  3. Click on the Create a topic button

To create a subtopic from the content map:

  1. Click on Content Map in the sidebar

  2. Click the Reorganize button in the top right

  3. Click the … menu on the topic you'd like to create a subtopic under

  4. Click Create subtopic

From a post

Can't find the right topic for the post you're about to publish? Create a topic right from your post!

  1. At the top of your post, click on Add a topic…

  2. Type the name of your new topic

  3. Click Create new topic "your topic name"
