Setting up unified search

Unified search exists on two levels — team and individual. Team search must be set up by admins, and it allows the entire team to search across all content in the respective integration. Individual search must be set up by each individual user, and it allows users to search across the content they have access to in the respective app, including their own private content.

Some integrations support team search, some integrations support individual search, and some integrations support both.

We currently support team unified search for the following integrations:

  • Height

  • Dropbox

  • GitHub

  • Google Drive

  • Guru

  • Linear

  • Quip

  • Slack

  • Zendesk

We currently support individual unified search for the following integrations:

  • Asana

  • Box

  • Confluence

  • Dropbox

  • Google Drive

  • Jira

  • Slack

  • Trello

Team unified search

Slab admins can enable team unified search for all users.

To enable, head into your admin integration settings and click Enable next to the integration you want to install (or Modify if it's already been installed). Then, choose the level of permissions you want to enable for you team.

For example, in the case of Google Drive, you can choose to disable team search, enable it for all directories, or enable it for all public directories.

If you choose All directories, this will allow your users to search across all content in Google Drive, including private content that they may not have access to. Private content will still appear in search results, but in order to open the content in Google Drive, users will need to request access if they don't already have it.

Individual unified search

Each user can set up individual unified search for their own use.

To enable, start a search and click the ⚙️ Manage button at the top to see the list of available individual integrations. Click on any integration and follow the authentication process.

Using unified search

To use unified search, just type any search terms into the search bar. You'll then see results across your enabled integrations!

For some integrations, such as Google Drive and Dropbox, you can hover over the icon of any search results to see a preview of the result. This helps you find what you need even faster!
